What is the Ecotrail Funchal – Madeira?
It is a trail running race held in both natural and urban settings on the island of Madeira, which is part of the international Ecotrail series and promotes sports, nature, and sustainability.
When and where does it take place?
It will take place on October 17, 2026, on the island of Madeira, with participants starting from various points throughout the city and finishing in downtown Funchal (Avenida Arriaga / Largo da Restauração).
What distances are available?
Athletes can compete in various distances:
– 60 km
– 45 km
– 30 km
– 15 km
– Kids Race for children’s age groups.
What are the routes like?
The races take place on trails, water channels, footpaths, and natural technical trails, with varying elevation gains depending on the distance. The start is at different locations, but the finish is in downtown Funchal.

What is the event schedule?
October 15 and 16 – Openingceremony and registration at the race office.
October 17 – Races: 6:00 a.m. (60 km), 7:30 a.m. (45 km), 9:00 a.m. (30 km), 11:00 a.m. (15 km).
October 18 – Kids’ race and awards ceremony.
What is included in the registration fee?
Registration includes a race number/timing chip, accident insurance, food and drink at aid stations, first aid support, a medal or finisher’s kit (for those who complete the race), and a digital certificate of participation (upon request). Transportation to the starting lines can be arranged upon request.
Are there any time constraints or limits?
Yes. The races have specific time limits and checkpoints along the route. Participants are disqualified if they exceed the time limits set for each stage of the course.
How do I check in?
In-person check-in takes place at the registration desk in the days leading up to the event. It can be done by the athlete themselves or by a third party, including in the case of minor participants (Kids).
Is there a liability waiver and set of rules?
Yes. To participate, athletes must accept the Liability Waiver and review the race rules, which are available on the official website.
Can I participate if I'm a minor?
For the main race distances, age requirements vary by event. The Kids Race features age groups specifically for children. Younger participants must provide a parental consent form.
